JORDIE LANE writes and delivers his songs with incredibly beautiful imagery and wisdom. His latest album, Sleeping Patterns, is storytelling at its rawest, gutsiest, and most fragile. It moves between finger pickin’ ballads, western tunes, rockin’ blues and even the odd sea shanty. Jordie’s tireless dedication to playing live shows and festivals has made him one of the most talked about artists of the Melbourne music scene over the past few years and we are thrilled to have him playing at Feskyval 2011.
DAN BRODIE has blurred the distinction between alternative and country music, being the first artist to play both the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Big Day Out in the same year. In the tradition of Johnny Cash and Robbie Fulks, the ARIA Award nominee’s songs deal with loss and heartbreak with a dark sense of humour. It seems that the best breakup songs are the ones that are able to make you quietly chuckle at the same time they are bringing you close to tears. This is Dan Brodie.
JOHN FLANAGAN AND THE BEGIN AGAINS blend traditional Americana stylings with deeply honest Australian storytelling to create their simple and expressive style of bluegrass/folk music. With influences including Alison Krauss and Nickel Creek this four-piece Melbourne band has developed a unique sound characterized by warm, crystal clear vocal harmonies and delicate acoustic textures.
ANCIENT FREE GARDENERS were created in 2006 around a nucleus of the poetic indie tunes of James Milsom. Callum John Barter (Double Agents/Gun Street Girls) was transplanted to the drum stool from behind the desk just before bassist Gautam Raju and ivory-baron Steve Morfesse were recruited. Together they form a dream team not to be missed at this year's Feskyval.
MONIQUE KERR has the unique ability to hush an audience, with her powerful voice and encapsulating tunes. Returning to Feskyval for another year, Kerr has added an amazing band to compliment her already incredible talent.
BIG DIP, aka Anthony Di Berardino, was introduced to rap at the raw age of 14 and hasn’t looked back. Now 26, the difference between Big Dip and run-of-the-mill hip-hop artists is that he doesn't pretend to be anything he is not. Rather guns, drugs and bitchez, his songs are about the real life experiences of everyday people. Dip also produces most of his own music and beats on his pride and joy, his Yamaha PSR Keyboard.
POWERFUL OWL are a sweet, sweet band. Come see them kick off Feskyval 2011 with a rockin' set.
